Understanding people.
Psychology has become an increasingly important part of how I understand people, behaviour, relationships and the world around me.
This page explores my interest in psychology and people, the areas I find particularly interesting, and how this interest connects with my education, professional experiences and future direction.
Curiosity about people.
My interest in psychology comes from wanting to better understand the people around me and the factors that influence behaviour.
People are complex. Our behaviour can be influenced by our experiences, relationships, environments, thoughts, emotions and the situations we find ourselves in.
Psychology provides a framework for exploring those influences and asking better questions about why people think, feel and behave in different ways.
My interest has grown through a combination of university study, employment, volunteering and leadership experiences.
Working with customers, colleagues, children, young people and community organisations has given me opportunities to see how differently people communicate, respond to situations and interact with others.
Rather than simply looking at what someone does, I am interested in understanding the factors that may contribute to their behaviour.
Look beyond the behaviour.
One of the things I find interesting about psychology is that behaviour rarely exists in isolation.
The same behaviour can have very different meanings depending on someone’s circumstances, experiences, environment and relationships.
This encourages me to approach people with curiosity rather than immediately making assumptions about why they behave in a particular way.
Understanding people does not necessarily mean agreeing with every behaviour. It means being willing to ask questions, consider context and recognise that there may be more happening beneath the surface.

My Bachelor of Psychological Studies / Bachelor of Business is giving me the opportunity to develop a more structured understanding of psychology and human behaviour.
Studying psychology alongside business is particularly valuable because it allows me to consider both the individual and the wider environment around them.
My previous Diploma of Business also provided a foundation in areas such as organisational behaviour, ethics, marketing and decision-making.
My goal is not simply to learn about psychology, but to understand how that knowledge can eventually be applied in meaningful, people-focused work.
Where this interest may lead.
Psychology is becoming an increasingly important part of the direction I want to take professionally.
Continue Learning
Continue developing my knowledge of psychology, human behaviour and people through university study and independent learning.
Master of Social Work
A longer-term goal is to pursue postgraduate study in social work after completing my current degree.
