When people think about professional development, they often focus on qualifications or job titles. While those are certainly important, I’ve come to realise that personal growth is built through a combination of education, practical experience, leadership opportunities, and a genuine willingness to keep learning.
As I continue building my career, I’ve taken time to reflect on the journey that has brought me to where I am today. Every role, qualification, and volunteer opportunity has contributed to my understanding of people, organisations, and the impact we can have when we choose to continuously improve ourselves.
My Educational Journey
Education has become one of the biggest driving forces behind my personal and professional development.
After completing secondary school, I undertook a Diploma of Business (Enterprise) at Victoria University. This provided me with a strong understanding of business operations, marketing, business law, financial literacy, ethics, organisational behaviour, and enterprise development. More importantly, it taught me how businesses operate strategically and how decision-making contributes to long-term success.
Building on that foundation, I am now studying a Bachelor of Psychological Studies and Bachelor of Business, majoring in Marketing. This combination allows me to explore two areas that genuinely interest me: understanding why people think and behave the way they do, and learning how organisations can better connect with customers through ethical, evidence-based marketing.
I believe psychology and marketing complement each other exceptionally well. Understanding consumer behaviour, motivation, communication, and decision-making provides valuable insights that extend far beyond traditional business environments.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Formal education is only one part of professional development.
Throughout my journey, I’ve completed a range of professional certifications, including the NDIS Worker Screening Check, the NDIS Worker Orientation Module, Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA), and other workplace safety and compliance training. These qualifications have strengthened my understanding of ethical practice, legislative requirements, workplace safety, and supporting diverse communities.
Each certification represents more than simply meeting a requirement—it reflects my commitment to continuous learning and maintaining high professional standards.
Gaining Experience Through Employment
Since entering the workforce at the age of 15, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a variety of industries, each teaching me valuable lessons that continue to shape my professional development.
My career began with KFC Australia, where I developed strong foundations in customer service, teamwork, food preparation, and working within fast-paced environments. Over time, I progressed into leadership-focused roles, including Skills Champion and Shift Supervisor Trainee, where I supported the training and development of new employees while gaining valuable leadership experience.
In 2025, I joined ALDI Australia as a Store Assistant. Working within one of Australia’s most efficient retail organisations has strengthened my operational skills, attention to detail, communication, and ability to consistently perform under pressure. Retail has taught me that success often comes from doing the small things well every single day.
I also worked with CGL Retail Services as a Mystery Shopper, evaluating Responsible Service of Alcohol compliance, customer service standards, and organisational procedures. This role strengthened my observation skills, analytical thinking, written communication, and ability to objectively evaluate business performance.
Each position has challenged me in different ways while reinforcing the importance of professionalism, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
Giving Back Through Volunteering
Some of my most rewarding experiences have come through volunteering.
Working alongside Blue Light Victoria has allowed me to support youth programs delivered within schools, helping create positive learning environments while encouraging resilience, confidence, and community engagement among young people.
Through HeartKids Limited, I’ve also had the opportunity to assist with fundraising events that support children and families affected by childhood-onset heart disease. These experiences have reinforced the importance of community involvement and demonstrated how small contributions can collectively create meaningful change.
Volunteering has strengthened my leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills while reminding me that success isn’t measured solely by career achievements, but also by the positive impact we have on others.
Developing Skills That Last
Looking back, I’ve realised that every experience contributes to a broader set of professional skills.
Through employment, education, and volunteering, I’ve developed strengths in communication, leadership, customer service, teamwork, problem-solving, organisation, adaptability, compliance, and critical thinking.
These aren’t skills that develop overnight. They are built through consistent effort, learning from mistakes, taking on new challenges, and remaining open to feedback.
I believe some of the most valuable professional qualities are reliability, integrity, empathy, and a willingness to continue learning—qualities I strive to demonstrate in every environment I am part of.
Looking Towards the Future
While I’ve already had the opportunity to gain valuable experiences, I still consider myself to be at the beginning of my professional journey.
My long-term goal is to combine my knowledge of psychology and marketing to better understand people, improve customer experiences, strengthen organisational culture, and contribute to workplaces that value both performance and wellbeing.
As I continue progressing through university, expanding my professional experience, and participating in community initiatives, I remain committed to lifelong learning, ethical leadership, and creating positive outcomes wherever I can contribute.
Every qualification earned, every challenge overcome, and every opportunity accepted becomes another step towards the person and professional I aspire to become. I’m excited to see where that journey leads next.
